The Power of daily painting: 5 easy steps to becoming a successful painter

There has been much research in the field of business about what separates successful from unsuccessful people. It has been found that a main determining factor of success is: successful people make a habit of doing the things that others do not push themselves to do. You may ask yourself, what does this have to do with painting? And the truth is, daily painting is a game changer. Habits of daily painting will skyrocket your skills and place you above other less committed artists.

Why do so many get stuck in creative deserts Many artists fail to improve or make beautiful creations because they are waiting for inpiration to hit them before they pick up a paint brush. Like Pablo Picasso said, “Inspiration exists, but it has to find you working.”. As you paint every day you will start to feel so much creativity, and will find yourself painting even when you do not feel any motivation. Consistently creating will prevent you from feeling a lack of inspiration.

Implementing the habit of daily painting

Finding time to paint every day can be very challenging at first until is is established as an automatic habit. This process can be made easier by following these simple steps:

5 steps to start daily painting:

Step 1: Pick a certain time in the day that you have an extra couple of minute to spare.

For me this is right after school, I have about an hour before the rest of my family starts coming home.

Step 2: Set up a painting area where all of your supplies are easily accessible and can be stored.

This does not need to be a large area! It just needs to be a space dedicated to painting were you can easily pick up the project that you were working on the previous day. I have a very limited amount of space but I fit everything in the corner of a room.

Step 3: Focus on short quality practices. Don‘t burn yourself out!

Be careful not to focus on getting big complex projects done in one day or seeing huge improvements after one practice. Like a muscle, you need to workout your artistic skills daily to see the best growth.

Step 4: Share your work regularly!

Try starting a social media account for your art work. This will keep you accountable and eventually help you find a market selling your paintings if desired. In my own journey to becoming a better painter, my social media has pushed me to create some of my greatest masterpieces. You can view my instagram @noelcouch.paintings

Step 5: Be gentle with yourself.

Creating art is a deeply personal act. Many times an artist can feel insignificant and self conscious amist the internet today where so many skilled artists share there work. You are not alone in this feelings! Do not let these feeling convince you that you are unworthy to be a painter! The world needs your creations, and every artist has had to develop the talent that they are presenting. Be patient, and you will soon start to see improvement.

This painting was a recent milestone in my own journey as an oil painter.

What you will learn

As you begin this journey you will see yourself valueing your time more, creating countless masterpieces, making mistakes and learning from them, creating a healthy outlet for your feelings, and growing a passion for expressing yourself through art.

In conclusion, daily painting is one of the best ways to grow your capabilities as a painter. In my own experience it has changed the way that I paint, and it has help me become more confident in my skills as an artist and creator.
